Natural Beauty Part II

Finding the best and effective beauty products is a hassle in and of itself, but finding effective products that also boasts their natural origins is even tougher. Natural beauty products draws its allure for many reasons, especially for those who have incredibly sensitive skin. Chemicals can irritate the skin, worsening your skin issues or even bringing new ones about. Making the switch to a more natural beauty routine has proven to be effective for many people (including myself) to ease acne, dry skin, irritation, rosacea, uneven tone, and dullness.

But where to begin? The natural beauty market is growing, and many products claim to do the trick to save your skin, but the ones that actually live up to their claims are far and few between. Lucky for you I have tested a few products that have worked well for me. These products have natural ingredients but may include others as well. The hard part of switching to natural skincare is finding the right balance between natural and man made. However, some products that are a level balance of both have shown to be effective and easy on my sensitive skin. The trick is to try to get as few chemicals in your skin (and be effective) as possible.

Lets begin!

Cleanser

Just Natural Skincare Face & Body Acne Wash ($15.99) – Just Natural Skincare is an all natural beauty company that has everything from face and body washes to shampoos and body butters. They specialize in head-to-toe natural pampering and I must say that it is relieving to find a one stop shop for all of your natural body care goods. This cleanser is a thick gel consistency that lathers up easily. It comes in a durable plastic 16oz pump bottle that dispenses a generous amount. I find that it is gentle on my skin and doesn’t over dry. However, it does dry out any whiteheads you have. I do not recommend this if you are targeting blackheads, you will need something more aggressive.

At a glance:

-A gentle gel cleanser that rids oil and dirt

-Effective on whiteheads and red irritated skin

-Includes Tea Tree and Manuka essential oils to cleanse among others

Belif Creamy Cleansing Foam Moist ($26) – This cleanser is ultra soft and everything a Korean skincare buff would want in their collection. Belif skincare is made without harsh chemicals and uses herbs and vitamins to achieve a gentle clean. This cleanser is one of three cleansers sold at Sephora, but this one is aimed at those with normal/combination skin. Personally, I could not use this cleanser for my extremely oily skin due to its moisturizing properties. However, I gave this to my twin sister (dry/normal skin) and it worked very well for her. This leaves your skin with a radiance that can really only be achieved with the right kind of nutrients for your skin. This cleanser leaves your skin supple and silky smooth. I do not recommend this one for oily/acne skin types. For those types I would suggest the Belif Crystal Cleansing Foam Fresh because it is developed specifically for oily skin types. Overall Belif is a great option for those with sensitive skin who enjoy the opportunity to start a 3-step skincare regimen.unnamed-1

CosRX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser ($10)-As I said earlier it is difficult to find effective yet natural skincare products. This cleanser is somewhere in the middle of natural and man made, but fear not! This product includes ingredients such as evening primrose and tea tree oil which aid in its 5 star rated effectiveness! This cleanser is great for acne prone skin and those who suffer from hyperpigmentation. The BHA helps to gently exfoliate the dead skin to reveal softer and more even skin with continued use! Have oily skin? This cleanser helps to reduce sebum production! This is a cleanser I urge those with problematic skin to use!

The Face Shop Rice Water Bright Oil Cleanser ($10.22) – Cleansing oils are essential in the Korean beauty regimen, but even more they are an effective first cleansing step to get rid of makeup, dirt, and oil. A cleansing oil is used before a regular cleanser to ensure that your skin is its most clean. This particular cleansing oil is made with rice bran oil and jojoba oil among other plant based ingredients. It is very light weight and removes my makeup without issue. I even notice it removes my dead skin! This cleanser is the right choice for oily skin types since it doesn’t overwhelm the skin and also helps brighten the complexion. This is my #1 cleansing oil and a staple in my skincare regimen!

Toners

Nature Republic Bee Venom Toner ($16.34) – This toner is designed specifically for acne prone skin. It uses bee venom and an anti acne complex that helps to treat and soothe the skin. It is very lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin without feeling tacky or sticky. *Do not use if allergic to bees.

This has helped calm the redness around my active acne and also helps them flatten out. My favorite part about this toner and thereason why I will never go without it is because it sucks the dirt and oil out of my pores. Although some people insist that toning is unnecessary (and for a while I felt that way too), this specific toner goes the extra mile to clean your skin. I double cleanse every evening, and even though I would like to think that my skin is squeaky clean, the cotton ball that I wiped across my face tells me otherwise. There is no other toner that cleans my skin the way this does! If you do not believe my I suggest that you try this yourself!

Belif Bergamot Herbal Extract Toner ($28) – My twin sister calls it magic for dry skin. Why? The Bergamot Herbal Extract Toner adds a moisturizing punch to show off a glow that I thought only sleeping beauty can achieve. For those with dry skin and if you’re on Accutane I highly suggest you grab a bottle. This will save your skin from feeling dry and rough, and will heal the cracks that come with dehydrated skin. Belief sticks to its natural “guns” and uses herbs as its secret ingredient for this toner. It has a cooling effect on the skin and leaves the skin feeling refreshed and awakened.

Witch Hazel – An oldie but a goodie, witch hazel has helped clean skin for decades! Witch hazel is made from the leaves of the witch hazel shrub. It helps to decrease inflammation in the areas of application while also cleaning it. For those with acne/oily skin, witch hazel  seems to be a classic choice for a natural skincare remedy.

Moisturizer

Belif Milky Moisturizer Hydra Balancing ($38) – This stuff is amazing and words fail at describing what this has done for whipping my skin in shape. I have oily skin but my topical medications dry me out in some areas of my face. This moisturizer hydrates my skin but also manages to balance out sebum production in others. It is very lightweight and absorbs quickly, but it is not too light for those with very dry skin. This will most definitely do the trick to add moisture in your skin during the day. I like to put this under makeup to make sure my base glides on flawlessly.

Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel ($7.99) – I know this isn’t a moisturizer per say but it is a great alternative to other lightweight moisturizers that are packed with chemicals! I use this to lock in my other skincare products and to soothe my irritated skin every night. Aloe vera is proven to benefit acne prone skin by calming irritation, thus reducing acne. I like this gel because of its high percentage of natural aloe vera gel (92%) and it doesn’t have the usual sticky residue. If you haven’t already done so, I suggest adding aloe vera to your nighttime routine as an added benefit to your skin! For me, aloe vera has helped reduce the redness in my face and has aided in reducing my breakouts. When I went to K-Town in NYC and stumbled upon this stuff I was automatically hooked by the glow it gave my skin. Try it out and let me know what it did for you!

Josie Maran Argan Oil Light – Argan Oil has been dubbed the liquid gold of skincare for those with intensely dry skin. It has fatty acids and vitamin E with help to hydrate the skin  for long periods of time. The argan oil light is a personal favorite of mine because it is much easier for most skin types to use because it doesn’t feel like a heavy oil. The light option absorbs much easier into my skin. I personally stick to the light option because it isn’t overwhelming to my skin and is not greasy. I like to mix two drops into my SPF for moisture, or I wear it by itself on my unusually dry days. The best part about a natural oil is that you can use it head to toe!

My mom swears by witch hazel!! She buys my teenage cousin witch hazel pads to help with her breakouts. She will be excited when I tell her it was on your list! I can hear her now, “I told you so!” =)
