On my recent shopping trip I was on the prowl for my new summertime obsessions that I knew only one place could satisfy – Sephora. This is the only store that I walk out of without experiencing buyers guilt and that is because they very rarely disappoint and their refund policy is amazing. I went into Sephora for a new foundation after these broke me out, and I danced out with a new beauty wardrobe.
For those of you loyal followers (luv u) you already know that my skin type is acne prone and oily. Summertime heat only perpetuates these problems so while at Sephora my goal was to find solutions to the oiliness. I came across Korres Pomegranate Mattifying Primer near the natural section of the store. Its non irritating ingredients and mattifying properties were an obvious draw for me and at first sight looked like everything I needed. What I love the most is its silky like texture that helps smooth out my skins texture. When I tried it in the store I noticed it definitely blends out my pores so that my foundation doesn’t sit in them. The finish is matte and from what I could tell after the day finished was that I seemed to be less oily and my foundation wasn’t sliding off from the heat. It costs $33 for 1.01 oz, which I hope to review soon to let you know if it was worth the price!
After I used the primer I decided to try the Cover FX Total Cover Cream Foundation. After my nightmare experience with YSL and Lancome I was extremely cautious about what I would put on my face. A makeup artist at Sephora directed me to Cover FX because it was originally made for burn victims and was super gentle to the skin. Although I am not a burn victim, I certainly have very sensitive and easily reactive skin. I chose the cream foundation to cover the residual hyperpigmentation from former breakouts. Off that bat I love this stuff! It glided on my skin effortlessly and the match couldn’t be more perfect. At a glance this is what I loved about it:
- Full coverage & perfect match
- Easy to blend
- Didn’t feel heavy
- Non irritating
- anti-aging benefits
I quickly put this magical cream in my basket after seeing my skin look totally rejuvenated after the makeup artist applied it. Because it is summertime and I know I will tan as the summer progresses, I purchased a Cover Click Foundation in one shade darker. The cover click is a smaller version of the compact foundation and is very portable. It comes in a lipstick size tube that you apply directly on the face and blend out. I really do appreciate its portability since I am always on the go in the summer months.
Just to add to my golden glow I decided to try the Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer in medium. Finding a bronzer that doesn’t oxidize orange is every makeup junkies biggest challenge, but I have faith the this Too Faced bronzer won’t disappoint. The makeup artist at Sephora directed me to this one once I explained my skin type and pet peeve for that ugly orange contour. With this bronzer a little bit goes a long way so I blend this out to avoid harsh lines. The finish is a natural matte tan that doesn’t look overdone (if done right) and so far I am happy with this pick!
To finish up my face and make it as summer ready as I could I purchased the Supergoop Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50. I can tell you already that this will be a staple in my skincare routine regardless of the season. This stuff incredible for mattifying your face, whether you have makeup on or not. It is a refreshing mist with rosemary extract that helps to set makeup, control oil, and provide UV protection. This little bottle does everything I need to finish off my face and make it ready for the sun. It WILL set your makeup and it WILL provide the ultimate mattefying effect. What I love even more is that it is effortless SPF protection. No oily or sticky mess, just a quick spritz and you’re all set for the day!
Ever since I have been using Latisse I have become obsessed with my lashes. With that in mind I wanted to find a mascara that added volume and length. Sephora offers what seems to be their answer to Buxoms’ mascara with their Outrageous Volume-Dramatic Volume mascara. It definitely provides amazing volume but after a few applications I noticed that it clumped up and didn’t provide the length that I wanted. There are definitely better mascaras on the market, but on those days where I need a little extra volume I know to turn to this one.
When I am not obsessing over my lashes I am obsessing over my eyebrows. I like my eyebrows to look natural and full without looking overdone. I love Anastasia Beverly Hill’s Brow Wiz and the shade caramel matches my natural color very well. I always get compliments on my eyebrows when I use this, and most people think that they are my natural brows! Little do they know I have a gap in my eyebrow hairs from stitches that I needed after an accident when I was a child (oops!). I will never go without this brow pencil. You have total control of how much to apply and it doesn’t feel like you put anything on. What I love more is that it is zero mess application and fool proof. No sharpening, just twist it and you’re good to go!
Last but not least I present to you my new favorite lip product: Sephora Collection Matte Lip Stain in Pink Souffle! This is a long wear lip color in a beautiful shade of pink. It applies like a liquid and spreads very easy (which is good if you want to enhance your lip shape). Once it dries it is completely matte but it doesn’t feel drying on the lips like others do. After I tried this product I fell in love and I need to pick up some other shades to expand my collection!
I hope you enjoyed my first haul and found some products worth looking into! As always like, comment, and follow to keep up with me!
